Volunteering & Community

Woking Rotaract have been heavily involved with helping the local community over the years. Please see  the fundraising section for some of the charities that we have donated to and where applicable a press release relating to the donation.

We also support our community through various volunteering projects - Horsell Common Preservation and Woking Talking Newspapers being long-standing examples of this.

Epsom Discovery Garden Print E-mail

This weekend three of us joined Epsom Rotaract to help with a garden project they are involved with at a local hospital. The garden, which went into disuse over 10 years ago, had become overgrown with thistles and moss.. It is now with the help of Local Rotarians and Rotaractos being transformed into a wildlife garden with a variety of plans and trees to attract local birds and insects.

As devistating as the pictures may look, the harsh cutting back is necessary to attract more butterflies and wildlife next year - the budliea will produce many more shoots and flowers this way!

Runway's End Print E-mail

Whoever booked the weather this weekend did a marvellous job! No wind and sunshine as district 1140 worked together to help construct a garage for a scout center in Farnborough. The Garage was 100 yards from the Basingstoke Canal, making it possible for canoes and kayaks to be kept within easy access of the canal and yet at the same time stored securly. As one would expect with an event like this we had a BBQ at the end, and also helped redesign & test a F1 track for the center as well!! Job well jobbed!

Horsell Common Footpath Challenge Print E-mail

Over the last couple of months we have been getting involved with a local community project to build a disabled access footpath through some local woodland. This is an open project and needs no association with Woking Rotaract - come along and give it a go.

To see a flier about the project see here and here.

Woking Firework Display Print E-mail

Woking Rotaract assisted with the collection, stewarding, and marshalling duties at the Woking Firework display. The fireworks were as good as ever despite the miserable weather! Just over £12,000 was raised for charity from this event.
